Class- 6
Ch-1 (Computer An Overview)
Differentiate-
A.PRIMARY MEMORY-Primary memory is the area in which data is
stored by CPU for processing.
SECONDARY MEMORY- Secondary memory is used to store
large amount of data and is non volatile in the nature.
B.VOLATILE MEMORY -Volatile memory is a memory that losses its
contents when the computer or hardware device loses power.
NON VOLATILE MEMORY- Non
volatile memory is a memory that keeps it contents even if the power is lost.
C) ROM- ROM
stands for the Read Only Memory, the memory from which we can only read but
cannot write. ROM is considered non-volatile memory.
RAM- RAM
stands for Random Access Memory. This is used in computer system as the main
memory. RAM is considered volatile memory.
Answer the following questions.
a)Define Computer.
Computer is a Programmable
electronic device that processes data under our instructions to give the
desired output.
b)Name the three
components of CPU. Explain briefly about each of them.
Three
components of CPU are-
1. ALU- It performs the arithmetic and
logical operations.
2. Memory unit- This unit can store
instructions, data and intermediate results.
3.Control unit- This unit controls the
operations of all the parts of computer.
c)What do you
understand by the term 'Computer Memory'?
Computer
memory is any physical device that is capable of storing information
temporarily or permanently.
d)What is Primary
Memory and what is its utility?
Primary
memory is known as main storage or internal memory.
It
is used by the CPU to keep copies of files, programs and other temporary
information.
e)What is Secondary
memory? Explain the advantages of using it.
It
is actually storage media or the device where software and data can be stored
on a permanent basis. The data on it stays there until it is deleted or
overwritten by the user.
f) Write a short note on
‘Hard Disk’.
It
is primary device for PC’s and also known as fixed disk.
It
can hold large amount of data and information which is permanent unless the
hard disk is damaged or user instructs to delete it.
g)Write a short note on
‘Blu‐ray Disk’.
Blu‐ray
(BD) is the name of a new optical disc format that offers more than five times the
storage capacity of a traditional DVDs.
h) What is Cloud
Storage? Explain its advantages.
Cloud storage is a term that refers to
online space that you can use to store your data.
Advantages-
1.
Once
backed up, your files can be accessed whenever you need them, anywhere in the
world.
2.
Risks of losing important files and
information are less.
