CH-1 Introduction to Computers Networking
NOTE- 4 (D) WLAN
3(A) NIC
(B) NODE
(C) UTP
(D) HUB
(E) SERVER
6. Differentiate between the following.
A. Node : Nodes are the computers on the network that are provided to the users to carry out their tasks using the network.
Server : Servers are faster computers that run various software, store and process information by providing an interface for the users to be able to utilize the networked computers.
b. Local Area Network: It is a group of computers that belong to the same organization and are linked within a small geographic area using a network and often the same technology.
Wide Area Network : This type of network which covers a large geographic area such as country, continent or even whole of the world.
c) Peer‐to‐Peer architecture : Peer‐to‐peer(P2P) networks are more commonly implemented where less then ten computers are involved and where strict security is not necessary. All computers have the same status, hence the term 'peer' and they communicate with each other on an equal footing.
Client/Server architecture : Client/server networks are more suitable for larger networks. A central computer or 'server', acts as the storage location for files and applications shared on the network. Usually the server's hardware configuration is higher than other computers on network.
A.B.Q- Mr. Sarkar has set up his office with ten(10) computers and one laser printer. He wants to
connect all the ten computers with printer. Which type of network will you suggest him to use.
He can use the bus topology to meet his requirements.
Sonal wants to transfer few songs from her mobile phone to her father’s mobile phone. In her house, WiFi connectivity is not available, suggest the simplest wireless option she may opt for doing the same.
She can use the bluetooth technology to transfer songs from her mobile phone to father’s phone
ANSWERS :
a) What is networking? Give some relevant examples from daily life.
A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing hardware and
software resources. Examples: Water Supply System, Cable TV network etc.
b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of using networking system?
Advantages are : Easy sharing of files/software/hardware devices. Increase storage capacity Disadvantages are: Security , Virus problem, if server is down whole network will suffer, Need experts to manage network system.
c) Explain any two types of network configurations.
There are two types of network configurations, peer‐to‐peer networks and client/server networks.
d) What are the components of computer network?
Components of A Computer Network are: Servers, Nodes, Hubs/Switches , Network Interface Cards and Networking Cables.
e) What do you understand by the term Topology?
Topology refers to the layout in which various components of a network are connected with each other. It specifically refers to the physical layout of the network, especially the locations of the computers and how the cable is run between them.
