a) Why do we need formulas.

We need formula to perform mathematical operations on a specific value.

b) What do you understand by the order of operations? 

When there is more than one operation in a formula, the order of operations tell us which operation to calculate first.

Excel calculates formulas based on the following order of operations while moving from left to right (beginning to end) of expression: 

1. Operations enclosed in parentheses. 

2. Exponential calculations. (to the power of) 

3. Multiplication and division, whichever comes first. 

4.Addition and subtraction, whichever comes first.

c) What are function in Excel needed for?

Functions are special pre‐written formulas that take value(s) to perform an operation and return value(s) in the cell in which they are entered. By using functions, you can quickly and easily make many useful

calculations.

d) What should we keep in mind while using Excel functions?

We should keep following points in mind while using Excel functions.

• We must use an equal sign(=) to begin a function. 
• Specify the function name. 
• Enclose arguments within parentheses. 
• Use commas to separate arguments.
